Table display 4

Bay of Plenty Orchid Society president Cliff Goodchild, who lives down the coast in Whakatane, has sent some photos of his beautiful plants for us to enjoy.

This is what happens when you let your Pleione bulbs multiply – a beautiful specimen blooming of Pleione limprichtii, also known as the hardy Chinese orchid. Gives a great display every year, says Cliff who grows it in a mix of No. 2 bark and potting mix in the darkest part of the shade house.
Cliff has this plant outside under shade cloth, exposed to the weather and with morning sun.
A very old cross but a good flowerer. Cliff grows it in an unheated glass house.
Purchased from (the late) Dr Roy Harris many years ago, this Masdevallia grows easily and flowers well. Cliff has it in a shade house exposed to southerlies and rain.
This plant is grown in bright light in an unheated green house year-round.
Cliff grows this Cymbidium outside under shade cloth, fully exposed to the weather all year round – and this year it has responded with 7 spikes. He waters it with liquid blood and bone.
Purchased from Selwyn Hatrick in 2019 as a seedling, this is its first flowering. Grown in an unheated glass house. The ‘Pavatree’ name caused some head scratching at a recent meeting; turns out it was registered with the RHS in 2004 as a cross between Pavarotti and Spring Tree.
Purchased from Ninox Orchids at the 2019 National Expo in Palmerston North with one spike – this year it has 6 spikes. Cliff grows it in an unheated green house that features bright light.
Grown outside under shade cloth, and fully exposed to the weather all year round, this pretty Cymbidium flowers every year for Cliff, who waters it with liquid blood and bone.
