F/A-18C Hornet
Pilot Model

The ejection animation of the Hornet has been reworked, and this includes the opening of the parachute, walking and idle animations. The basic poses have been improved to be more natural. Attention was paid to important details like the oxygen mask tube and the parachute lines. The pilot geometry also now matches the one in the cockpit.

Work is underway to integrate the completely new and highly-detailed F/A-18C pilot model for the first-person view, which is important for VR. The source materials were obtained by using 3D scanning technology and objects obtained from photographs. We look forward to sharing more details.

Once the Hornet pilot is complete, the DCS: Mi-24P Hind’s pilot and co-pilot models will be updated. We will also be improving the Viper’s pilot.

Hornet and Viper
Development Progress

https://store.steampowered.com/app/411950/DCS_FA18C_Hornet/
As you may have noticed, both the Hornet and the Viper are under constant development to improve details and characteristics in addition to adding features and addressing bugs. After many years of determined attention, both modules are approaching a feature complete status. You can view the Hornet roadmap here and the Viper roadmap here on our forum.

Both the Hornet and Viper will benefit from a refactoring of the radar that will provide more realistic behavior with noticeable improvement in the time between detected and tracking, look-down performance, and the effect of azimuth and bar settings. In addition, both will be receiving new 3D pilot models with lifelike animations, associated Mission Editor and Planners Digital Transfer Cards, as well as new bomb fuze support including; programmable fuzes and air burst options.

Finally, the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is currently undergoing an update to its flight model and Flight Control System, adjusting the external lights, and Loft cues for GPS-guided weapons.

Likewise, the Viper is also undergoing several unique additions like the Velocity Search radar mode, more datalink functions and a radar warning receiver handoff mode. Even after both aircraft exit Early Access, development will continue.

AH-64D
Development Progress

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1770580/DCS_AH64D/
Work continues steadily on DCS: AH-64D with much of the focus being on bug fixes and polishing. Before delivering you with more new features, it is very important that we secure a solid foundation to build upon. Additionally, a big push on fixes and tuning has been made to alleviate player confusion and frustration. Some of the notable items that are underway can be found in the forum post here and include:
  • Tuning of the damage model.
  • Engine start issues.
  • Improvements to the flight model, Stability Augmentation System (SAS), and hold modes.
Although bug fixing and tuning has been our priority, we have certainly been working on new features that are not restricted by existing bugs. Some of these include: the option to remove the auxiliary fuel tank for more cannon rounds, the addition of the AGM-114L radar-guided Hellfire, the Improved Data Link Modem (IDM) and Longbow Net, the Fire Control Radar (FCR), the Laser Spot Tracker (LST), animated engine nacelle cooling doors, and wipers to remove rain drops.

Please stay tuned for more information on these new features coming soon.

Thank you again for your passion and support,

Yours sincerely,

Normandy 2
Development Update

We are excited to announce that this large-scale map of the Normandy region and southeast England will be available soon. Work on debugging and completion is in full swing. This map will include 69 airfields, many new towns and villages, ports, factories, and the capitals of London and Paris.

The Normandy 1944 map will be updated such that it will be compatible with the Normandy 2 map in both single player and multiplayer. This includes the addition of many new and improved fields, cities, and villages that will now become unique and separate territories of France and England.

Other changes include improved buildings and structures, bridges, ports, roads and railways, forests, trees, sea cliffs, and coastlines. All Normandy 1944 map airfields will receive improvements, and their infrastructure and aircraft hangars will become more detailed and authentic. The entire map will receive a refresh to the seasonal changes of spring, summer, and autumn. As part of this free Normandy 1944 update, the five English airfields of Deadland, Friston, Lymington, Odiham, and Stoney Cross will become uniquely modelled. Additionally, 18 new airfields will be added, with 4 in England and 14 in France.

The release of the new Normandy 2 map will also be a huge and free improvement to the Normandy 1944 map. This will allow all Normandy 1944 map owners to have all of the Normandy 2 map airfields at no extra cost. Having the same 69 airfields on both maps will allow players to share the sky in online campaigns and online missions. Ugra Media has done everything possible to remove any borders between the two maps.

The price of the Normandy 2 map is $59.99, but for all users of Normandy 1944 or Channel the new map will be available at a price of $14.99. The map will be available on both our eShop and Steam.

Ugra-Media would like to thank the DCS Forum participants for their passionate interest in the project and for their active participation in the discussions. This feedback helped add the airfields of Orly, Stoney Cross, Lymington, Odiham, Deadland, Friston, Amiens-Glisy, Poix, and Ronai.

Great attention was given to creating unique objects, buildings, and structures for Paris and London that include famous historical monuments. Transport and military infrastructure have also been recreated in detail. We look forward to sharing more information soon.

DCS: A-10C II | ARC-210 Radio (COMING SOON)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1417260/DCS_A10C_II_Tank_Killer/

In this DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer video, we’ll discuss the very basics of using the new ARC-210 radio. There is a lot of detail in this radio, particularly the menu system, but you’ll read about this in the manual. For this video, we just want to go over the basics to get you started.

The ARC-210 supports both UFH, VHF, and satellite communications, but support for satellite communications will come later along with other aircraft satellite radio communications. The control head is located on the left console, and it replaces one of the two VHF radio control heads. This leaves on VHF, one UHF, and one ARC-210 control head.

Let’s look at the most common functions that you’ll use on the control head.

In the bottom right corner of the control head is the Frequency Mode dial.

The Preset, or PRST, position that allows you to select a preset with its assigned frequency. On the display, the selected Preset channel is shown in the top right corner and the assigned frequency to that Preset is centered in the bottom of the display. Above the frequency is the AM or FM modulation indication.

The Manual, or MAN, position that allows you to manually enter a frequency using the five Frequency Selector Knobs. Also, to the left of the display are three line select buttons. If you press the top button, it will select the previously selected frequency.

The last two positions allow you to tune the radio to either the 243 MHz or 121.5 MHz guard channels.

To the left is the Preset Channel dial. If the Frequency Mode dial is set to Preset, rotating this dial allows you to cycle through the Preset channels.

In the bottom left corner is the Operational Mode dial. This can be set between OFF, Transmit and Receive, Transmit and Receive while doing the same on the two Guard channels, and changing your channel presets. To change the frequencies of your presets, the Frequency Mode Dial must be in the Preset position and the Operational Mode Dial must be in the Change Preset position. You can then use the Frequency Selector Dials to change the frequency of the active Preset channel.

Along the left side at the bottom are your display brightness controls.
On the right side is the squelch switch and the offset button. Pressing the offset button offsets the current frequency to a new frequency, generally in 5 or 8.33 kHz steps.

Last is the Menu button that is a rabbit hole of pages that you can explore but not necessary for normal operations. We’ll detail these in the manual.

Up on the HUD in the top left corner is the ARC-210 indication. V1 is the installed radio. This will either display the frequency when in Manual mode or the channel when in Preset mode. If you wish to change the frequency, using the Up-Front Controller, or UFC, type in the desired frequency and you’ll see it on the HUD scratchpad at the bottom of the HUD. Once entered, press the COM 1 button. To change the Preset, it’s just as easy. Select Preset mode, type in the Preset channel number on the UFC, and then press the COM 1 button.

You can also view all your Preset channels with their assigned frequencies on the new COMM page. Upon selecting COMM, then select ARC210 Presets. You now have all the Preset channels listed and by pressing the NEXT button you can view the second page.

To change a Preset frequency assignment, use the up and down arrow buttons to select the desired Preset channel row and you can then set a frequency, name, and AM or FM. For example: change the frequency by typing in a new frequency on the UFC and then pressing the FREQ button. In the same manner, type in a new name on the UFC and then press the NAME button. To switch the Present channel between AM and FM, just press the MOD, for modulation, button.

I hope this video was helpful for understanding the basic operations of this new radio for the A-10C.
