A staple racing franchise, The Need for Speed started its racing roots back on the PS1. This first game in the series is a pure sim racing game similar to Gran Turismo. A police chase mode in which the player had to avoid being ticketed by the cops was included, and that mode would eventually spawn a spinoff of sorts in the form of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. The series as a whole is still going strong to this day, with periodical releases of racing games and police themed games.
