The ‘Sincerity Mindset’

This mindset is my personal favourite, it’s a state of mind I live and breathe in, and admire in a few others I meet. In a world of transactional relationships and fake emotions, sincerity is a rare quality. However, I must confess here that I was born with this mindset but nurtured it despite many temptations to pretend or cut corners. Today, running fast into my silver years- being sincere has paid off well. Maybe not in terms of bank balance built by deceit but solid relationships. Friends who I can count on at any time of the day or night spread over the world. These friends are not relatives or school friends but mostly clients and bosses who cherish their positive moments of truth in the past with me. Who remember that whatever I did with them and for them was deep-rooted in genuineness and sincerity to earnestly foster their interest and goals.

If you want to shine bright in today’s mechanical world, developing a ‘Sincerity Mindset’ will create a glow that will light you up and also the path of many others who might be fumbling in the dark. Here are three easy steps which take perseverance and tenacity but help you evolve into a ‘Sincerity Mindset’

Wake up and smell the coffee

The first step is self-evaluation. Measure who you are. Be frank and honest. List down your strengths and weaknesses. What’s your approach to life? Are you ruthless and do anything to achieve what you want? Do you mislead and make false promises? Is your success because of your own result oriented hard work or because you manipulate and take short cuts? Do you not value others and believe in human ability? Are you selfish to a fault? Do you race to reach the mountain top and trip others along the way to reach there? These are hard hitting questions but even if you say yes to three of the questions above, you have a problem. You are hard wired like many others not to be sincere and adopting a ‘Sincerity Mindset’ will be almost impossible. As they say even the word ‘Impossible’ says ‘I’m possible’. You can start today but you have to be really sincere to develop a ‘Sincerity Mindset’!

Sincerity needs commitment

Being sincere needs complete commitment, therefore the first rewiring of your own self is to commit to be sincere and be hard nosed about it. Start your practicing by keeping to your promises. If you promise to be home by 8pm to take your family out for dinner, be home at 7:45pm. You should get a reputation of being an icon of commitment and deadline management. Like trust takes many moments of truth, sincerity takes much longer and several more moments of positive truth before people form the perception of you being sincere. Once you get into the habit of walking the talk and doing what you say, you have successfully laid the difficult foundation of a ‘Sincerity Mindset’. Now the next step is to be consistent and steadfast.

Develop sincerity to be an auto response

Remember, your mind and body adapt very fast to change. Being flexible is a rare quality but much needed in today’s world of chaos, uncertainty and erosion of human values. Flexibility gives you that super power to bounce back, reboot and progress easily. Initially we humans consciously implement change. Say someone tells you that you talk very fast, in the beginning you are very conscious that you start talking slowly but gradually your sub conscious takes over and speaking slowly becomes an auto response. Same with swimming- you drink a lot of water initially and then watch your actions in water but soon you do not even know that you are swimming as it becomes an auto response. Once you evolve into a sincerity mindset everything will flow naturally and positively for you. Indeed, the world will soon become your oyster.

“Sincerity is impossible unless it pervades the whole being, and the pretence of it saps the very foundation of character.” James Russel Lowell
