Crews were demolishing the multipurpose room of the old Castro Elementary School on Lawrence Street near Donal Avenue Thursday (July 11, 2013.)
The work is part of the effort to convert the closed elementary school to a new campus for Portola Middle School. Most of the strip of portables along Lawrence that housed special services is gone, as is the kindergarten building along Donal. Castro’s main building and primary wing will be renovated for the new Portola campus.
The old Portola site on Navellier at Moeser was deemed unsafe for a replacement campus.
