Paph season at Wiegand’s

Apr. 6, 2016 [update]: The other rescue Phal has been blooming almost continuously and it’s been id’d to be Phal. Ho’s Dreamy Jade. One of Larry’s favorites for sure!

Jul. 4, 2015 [update]: We waited until more of the flowers were open before we took pictures of our Paph. Lebaudyanum. It’s so exciting we didn’t blast our very first multifloral Paph flower spike!

June 7, 2015: We haven’t been to Wiegand’s in a while but with the tv commercials and the postcard mailers we’ve been receiving, we just had to take a trip out there again. It’s always interesting to see what’s in stock when we visit and today it’s Paph season! There were a bunch of Miltonias, Phals, and Oncidiums there as well but the Paphs were definitely the majority.

Paph. LebaudyanumWe figured we might as well take advantage of the choices available and finally get a multifloral Paph to bloom in our home (we have a few multifloral Paph plants but never bloomed one yet).

Paph. Lebaudyanum internet picture(picture from Internet) Considering that both parents of our plant are alba-forme, I wonder how different the flowers will look compared to the popular pictures of Paph. Lebaudyanum out there in the interwebs.

After leaving Wiegand’s, we dropped by English Gardens so Larry can pick up some New Zealand sphagnum moss (I stayed in the car since I’m still boycotting English Gardens and refuse to patronize them because of their stupid hiring policies). He picked up a couple of unique-looking no id Phals which we believe to be Phal. K S Evergreen.
