Jul. 25, 2015 [update]: The first of potentially many Psychopsis Kalihi flowers is in full bloom and it’s so cute!

May 23, 2015: During last weekend’s Michigan Orchid Society meeting, the speaker of the month Edgar Stehli of Windswept In Time had mentioned that this weekend was their Spring open house. We were originally planning to check out the Traverse City Orchid Show this weekend but after much thought, we figured the drive to Windswept In Time would be shorter so off to Broadview Heights, Ohio we went.

BOY were we glad we drove out there! I think we just got a glimpse of our future collection. Windswept In Time has an extremely diverse range of plants and almost all of them are for sale. Suffice it to say, we’re already planning to get an EZ-Pass to get through the toll roads faster since we’re definitely going back there!

If you’re reading this today (Saturday) you still have time to check them out tomorrow since their open house goes on till then (11am to 5pm)! It’s really worth the trip! They also have their Fall open house on Nov. 7 and 8 from 11am to 5pm.

Chroniochilus virescens

(picture from Internet) Every direction you turn, there were all kinds of plants to see. This was actually the first one we picked up since it’s another genus/species we’ve never heard of and looks ready to bloom.

Paraphalaenopsis serpentilingua

(picture from Internet) Part of the fun at Windswept In Time’s greenhouse is, there were so many mounted plants hanging everywhere. When we saw he had Paraphals, we got so geeked!

Phal. leucorrhoda

(picture from Internet) There were a bunch of little Phal plants hanging everywhere. When we peeked at this plant’s tag, we initially thought it was a lueddemanniana and immediately got excited. After talking to Edgar about it, he corrected us and said it’s a leucorrhoda which is a natural hybrid between aphrodite and schilleriana. Still an awesome plant to have!

Phal. lueddemanniana var pulchra

This plant happened to be beside the leucorrhoda which Edgar pointed out as the lueddemanniana. Turned out to be var pulchra tho which is now known as just Phal. pulchra. He gave a keiki to us for free. It would be interesting to see how different the flower would look compared to the one we got from Dick Wagner (picture above, story at this post)

Phal. aphrodite ‘Ben Yu’ AM/AOS x sib

The way they setup their open house was so cool. They employed the tried and tested checkout strategy of stores where they filled the “checkout area” with grab-n-go plants. There was a bin of Phal species that we got this beautiful plant from.

Phal. amabilis var grandiflora

This is another one from the grab-n-go Phal species bin. So beautiful!

Psychopsis Kalihi

(picture from Internet) Across from the Phal species bin were a whole bunch of Psychopsis plants. This particular plant caught Larry’s eye since it had 6 inflorescence growing out of such a compact plant. The inflorescences that already had buds forming on them were also a whole lot shorter than the ones on the Psychopsis plants we had. We just had to take it home with us!

To round out our purchases, we had to get one of these cute plants which we first encountered at Windswept In Time’s table at the Greater Lansing Orchid Society Show earlier this year.
