Orchids and the City

There is a little story beind this little scarlet beauty. This plant was named after Prasong Sukhakul’s wife. But it is published as lanyaiae in Gunnar Seidenfaden – Contributions to the Orchid Flora of Thailand X111. Her nickname is Lamyai and not Lanyai. Lamyai is what we known as longans. The correction was given in Nord.J.Bot. 22, 6: 527 (2002).

This plant grows well in Singapore with control watering. One has to keep the plant moist and fertilize during growth season. After flowering reduce watering until new shoots appear.
