The Nikon D-series has always been desirable — it has been their flagship DSLR family, like the F-series was for film! We recently got this D3X (debuted in 2013) in our Used Department and it is BEAUTIFUL. I’m not one to gush about cameras often, but this camera…ugh…feels so good, sounds so SOLID. It’s fantastic.

If you’re a landscape or portrait photographer, I think this camera would be a real treat. I mention those two interests, because it is a hardy, well-built camera, so would enjoy a lot of outdoors use; it has an integrated vertical shutter button, so would be ergonomically preferable for portrait shooting. Too, this is not a high-ISO camera, only goig up to ISO 1600, so again, great for outdoors and studio-lights.

I got to take this camera out, along with a Tamron 24–70/2.8, and 17–35/2.8–4 from our Rental Department, to a visit to Port Washington and just north to Harrington Beach. The weather was beautiful, people were minding their social distance - despite the park being busy - and there were some great photo opportunities to be had!

Here’s a few pics from the bluff park in Port Washington, looking out over Lake Michigan. Those fishermen sure know how to practice social distancing!

Harrington Beach is not too far north from Port Washington and has a wealth of trails to explore. You could hike around an old quarry pond, through the woods, and along the Lake Michigan shoreline (that has been suffering some intense erosion recently).

Seriously, sooooo many photo-ops in this park! I wish I had remembered to bring along a circular polarizer, but beyond that, the kit I had performed flawlessly. This camera is still available in our Used Department, but I don’t know for how long, so come by soon and check it out!
