Abstract

The slipper orchids, Paphiopedilum are among the most popular genera for orchid growers in temperate countries, and these days, thanks to mericloning, some hybrids have even become parlour plants. Paphos is the legendary abode of the Aphrodite, and Greek pedilon (slipper) is a fanciful allusion that the stunning orchid flowers are slippers of the Greek goddess of beauty.
