LENS #2 - AF Nikkor 70-300mm F/4-5.6D (Original Price - $499) …

The AF-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D lens is a telephoto zoom lens for Nikon SLR cameras. It's a practically sized relatively strong zoom lens in a light housing with high quality optics. Designed to take over when wide angle lenses run out of magnification the 70-300mm D ED is perfect for use as a general-purpose lens particularly for outdoor photography. With it you can change magnification and framing quickly without having to change lenses or your shooting position.

Zoomed to its widest setting at the 70mm focal length it produces a 34°20' angle of view on a 35mm frame film and FX digital bodies. When zoomed all the way in to 300mm it produces a 8°10' angle of view. Used on DX format bodies the final image is cropped in for the approximately of 1.5x more magnification.

To help produces high resolution and high contrast even at maximum aperture the lens incorporates an ED (Extra low Dispersion) glass element into its 13 element 9 group optical design and all optical surfaces are fully multicoated. The lens close focuses to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) with a maximum reproduction ration of 1:3.9

The lens offers extensive compatibility across effectively the entire range of Nikon SLRs because it has a Nikon F Mount as well as FX full frame 35mm negative size coverage and the option of using the mechanical aperture control ring. Autofocus with this lens requires a camera with a built-in focus motor, manual focus is possible on all models.

Introduced in 1998, the Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D effectively replaced the Nikkor 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6. The newer design benefits from a slightly brighter maximum aperture on the short end and a two-touch layout (separate rotating zoom control ring instead of push-pull zoom operation). it's also noticeably lighter too so (not heavy enough to require the integral tripod mount its predecessor has).

All things considered the AF-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D is a nice solid option best suited for Nikon 35mm SLR and FX format DSLR users wanting a respectably good telephoto without the encumbrance and expense required by larger aperture models.

LENS #3 - AF Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6D (Original Price - $399) …

The AF-Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 D is an autofocus medium range zoom lens for Nikon 35mm film SLR cameras and Nikon Digital SLR cameras. It's versatile lens that covers FX format cameras (full 35mm film frame) that takes great images in a variety of settings.

The zoom range of the 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 D IF starts well inside wide angle territory at 24mm which yields a 84° angle of view; that's some 10° wider than more common 28mm lenses. The 5X zoom range tops out at 120mm, quite a bit inside portrait lens territory. The lens is also useable on DX format digital cameras* where it uses the higher resolution center area to produce an angles of view equivalent to a what a moderately wide-angle 36mm to telephoto 180mm full frame lens would produce on FX format.

The 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 D IF uses 15 elements in 11 groups to produce the best image quality possible and includes 2 Aspherical elements to help minimize distortion and aberrations. All elements are fully multicoated with Nikon's SIC (Super Integrated Coating) antireflective coating to minimize ghosting and produce the best possible contrast and color.

The Nikon 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6D was originally released in 1996 and became extremely popular in a short period of time.

The Nikon 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 D is a great travel lens, when paired up with a separate stronger telephoto (or ultra-wide angle) the focal length overlap means you don't have to switch lenses as often. The 24-120mm F/3.5-5.6D has been particularly popular for shooting special events (including weddings) where it's practical yet not overly broad zoom range is useful for both groups of people and individual portraits and reduces missed shots caused by camera or lens changes. The lack of an f/2.8 aperture is not a major concern for many users who shoot events with the lens stopped down somewhat for greater depth of field and sharpness anyway.
