I purchased two small Lepanthes orchids from eBay vendor shermantp, and they arrived today.  Lepanthes terborchii, on the left in the picture, is a native of Peru, is a cool growing orchid that requires high humidity and mostly shade.  It’s flowers are small (about 1/5 of an inch), but are brightly colored with red and white stripes.

The plant on the right is Lepanthes orchestris.  It is also found in a similar location,  northeastern Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, in cloud forests on the eastern slopes of the Andes at elevations aound 1300 to 2250 meters.  It is again a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte, with small (< 1.5″) flowers that are a waxy yellow in color with some red on the lip.

Each is mounted on a 2″x3″ piece of cork, with a small amount of sphagnum moss at the roots.  They are both sequential bloomers that bloom in the winter months.
