Museo Benini is a cultural project near Marble Falls west of Austin in the Texas Hill Country.

With the beginning of a crisp new year and certainly, with all the weddings we are celebrating in this issue, we love seeing how new lives, formerly separate, form as one.

Being in so many rooms and lives like we are, I believe we owe it to others, and ourselves, to be as interesting as we can. It’s something I learned at a relatively early age from my family and surroundings. To be well-read, well-cultured, and well-exposed. With the world at our ngertips these days, often on the phone, it’s never been easier to incorporate the best of what the world has to o er to help us curate our in-person conversations better.

To me, it’s all about the real-time connectivity we all are able to possess. It’s those savored moments where we share valuable lifelong relationships. It’s about the people, not the ash and the dash. Shiny experiences and shiny things come and go.

Silver tarnishes, and gold can melt. Yet, our people...families, friends, and colleagues are in it forever, hopefully. We sure think so around here. Case in point, we are mighty grateful for our editorial, design, and publishing teams who continue to dazzle in every issue with their remarkable talents. Just when I think I’ve seen it all, they create stories, nd people, and astonish me at every turn in our printed and digital platforms.

A former spiritual teacher alluded to the idea of a ‘soulmate’ being antithetical to wholeness. e theory is that we are whole in and of ourselves and do not need another to complete or enhance who we are. I have adopted this explanation. However, after my research, my mind cracked open a bit. Leonard Cohen writes in his song, Anthem, “ ere is a crack, a crack in everything. at's how the light gets in.” It turns out soulmates are a lovely, healthy construct.

One common thread most writers agree upon is that a person can have more than one soulmate. Life-long romance is not a quali cation. In fact, we have many soulmates. In her article, What Is a Soulmate–And How to Know if You’ve Found Yours, Christine Coppa writes about all the di erent types of Soulmates. ere are Romantic Soulmates, Soul Partners, Karmic Soulmates, Companion Soulmates, Kindred Soulmates, and Soul Contracts.

At my high school reunion this past summer, I encountered a Soul Partner. is was unknown to me at the time. A Soul Partner is a rare individual one hasn’t set eyes on in (in my case) decades. When reunited, time, distance, and separation melt away. e connection is deep and somehow feels permanent. Friends can also be soulmates, as we certainly know. is is known as the Companion Soulmate. Coppa describes it this way: "Friends are an essential part of our lifetime journey, and those of the soulmate type help us laugh when we’re in pain, nurture us when we’re su ering, ow with us when we’re riding high, challenge us to be real, love us with our warts, and never abandon us in anger. And we do the same with them."

SENSE OF SOULFULNESS

Amir Levine, MD, in his Washington Post article, Are Soulmates Real? concurs. He writes, “We’re all born with the brain neurocircuitry to see another person as more special than anyone else.” e fact that we can replicate this experience over and over is why we can have more than one soulmate.

He continues, “Biologically speaking, close friendships are a type of soulmate too. We know that close friends have similar brain patterns. A study this year found that close friends smell more alike than people who didn’t form close relationships. We look at someone, smell them, and they just make sense to us.” Yes, it all comes down to the sense of smell–as is customary in the animal kingdom.

In addition to smell, there are some psychological reasons for being drawn to a person. Many people are attracted to people like their parents. is could lead to a positive connection if the parental relationship was loving and supportive. However, if the parental bond was a painful and traumatic attraction, then a soulmate is not necessarily there. Much of this is not a conscious choice, as it originates on the subconscious level. Sometimes people will declare, “I feel like I have known them all my life.” ey have. is realization can lead to deep healing and breaking of stubborn, painful patterns in relationships.

A family and marital psychotherapist, Dr. Michael Tobin is an expert on soulmates. He has over 40 years of experience in this eld and is the creator of WholeFamily.com. In his article, How to Know You’ve Met Your Soulmate, he implies that the soulmate relationship is not co-dependent. Co-dependence infers a certain inherent neediness, which does not present in a soulmate connection. Unlike a co-dependent bond, feelings and needs are expressed between soulmates.

He explains, “ e best universal de nition of a soulmate is feeling deeply connected to another person but not in a dependent or needy way. e guiding principle in a relationship between soulmates is that needs are equally met because a soulmate relationship should challenge you to move from sel shness to giving.”

In this context, a relationship with a soulmate is healthy, balanced, and loving. It isn’t about not being a whole person. e point is to assist one another in becoming whole. It’s beautiful, deep, and mysterious. Soulmates aspire to unity. It’s also very meaningful–the kind of relationship everyone wants in their life.

We will always check in both places, if possible, before making further commitments. Be sure to add enough details to your calendar entry so you don’t draw a blank as the date nears. Dear Celebration Central, e way I treat these ambiguous instructions is either to dress festively – the sky’s the limit - or in what I call a modi ed black tie. ese guidelines apply to men and women. By festive, dressing thematically can be spectacular. If you are the sort of person who delights in original sartorial e orts, black tie optional is just what the doctor ordered. Modi ed black tie is a relaxed version of the standard get-up with one piece substituted with something fun–i.e., a colorful tie, a colorful shirt, etc. One substitution is a safe guideline to keep things from getting out of hand. e result should be very comfortable to wear yet easy to spot across a crowded room. Traditionally, black tie is not worn before 6 PM, or sundown.

Dear Etiquette Guy, I just received the wedding invitation from a college sorority sister. As an addendum, it states, “no photos, please.” I make my living in social media and was counting on sharing it with my followers. How should I proceed?

Dear Camera-Ready, I can understand your enthusiasm, especially given your profession. However, if there is an instruction on an invitation, don’t question it. e host is responsible for the success of the wedding. If the bride does not want photos taken, so be it. Dear Dog Gone, Allergies seem to have become far more front-and-center than they once were, likely due to medical progress. e answer to your not-so-unusual question rests with your self-awareness. Want to harken back to the speed of yesteryear? e Janus Halcyon 450cc motorcycle is like a trip down memory lane, with a path to the future, according to our luxe automobile enthusiast, Michael Satter eld of eGentlemanRacer.com.

UP UNTIL NOW, JANUS MOTORCYCLES, FOR ME, HAVE JUST been a concept. A modern, bespoke, USA-made motorcycle that looks straight out of the 1930s? Sign me up. Since you can't just walk into a dealership and test-ride one, I have always wondered if it would live up to the hype and the $15,000 price tag. Currently, the only way to purchase a Janus is directly from their Goshen, Indiana headquarters.

It is a big ask for an upstart motorcycle brand to start pricing at $15,000 for a Halcyon 450cc motorcycle when a Royal En eld Classic 350 is just $4,599, and a Triumph Bonneville starts at $12,000. But unlike the mass-produced bikes, every Janus motorcycle is hand built in Indiana by a small team, and buyers can custom tailor the bike to t their own vision. I built one using their online build tool, which came out to $17,220 with the optional extras I chose. is is in the price range of a very nice BMW R nineT, Ducati Scrambler, and other high-end motorcycles with much greater power.

e only bike I have ridden that can be compared to the Halcyon 450cc is a 1920s Indian Scout, not in the ride quality or power, but in the way the bike makes you feel, with its squared-o tank, sweptback handlebars, and upright seating position. e 450cc can feel like a bike from the 20s or 30s, but without the hassle of priming a carburetor, adjusting the spark, and kickstarting. Instead, you get an electric starter, a modern 5-speed transmission, and electronic fuel injection. Stopping is easier, too, so there are no sketchy 100-yearold drum brakes. Instead, Brembo discs can be found on the front and rear. e bike is nimble, thanks mainly to it being lightweight.

At just 345 lbs., it weighs just 29 lbs. more than a Vespa GTS 250

and nearly 200 lbs. less than a Harley Davidson Sportster 883. e seating position is comfortable, with all the switches and buttons where you would expect to nd them. e bike always feels incredibly balanced. While it might look 100 years old, the modern suspension makes riding a pure joy, and with a claimed 90mph top speed, the 450 is a bike you can ride anywhere. e engine and exhaust make you feel more connected to the bike and ride. So, there is plenty of power for running around town, and if I had a chance, I would be more than comfortable taking it on a crosscountry road trip.

e Halcyon 450 is a major upgrade from the original small displacement bike that started the company back in 2011. In 2015, Janus introduced a 250cc version of the Halcyon, which gave the bike a top speed of 70mph. Janus also would introduce the Phoenix 250, a cafe racer-inspired bike, and the Gry n 250, a scramblerstyle bike. However, the Phoenix will be discontinued this year after just seventy-nine were built. e Gry n 250 starts at $9,200, and the Halcyon 250 starts at $8,800, making it the least expensive Janus motorcycle you can buy, but the 450cc is the bike to have as it gives you the freedom to ride anywhere.

e Janus Motorcycle Halcyon 450cc is certainly something I like having in my garage. It transports you to another era without worrying about the problems that come with riding an antique bike. It looks the part, is amazing to ride, and sadly at some point, it will be picked up by the company and taken back to its owner. THE SETTING: e Charity Ball Association of San Antonio recently celebrated its 67th Chrysanthemum Ball at the Witte Museum. e evening was inspired by the idea of a Tuscan Italian evening by President Lee Anne Hendry. It was designed by Danny Cuellar of Trinity Flowers and Decorations Vice President Elizabeth Roberts. Guests were greeted by large ornate wrought iron candelabras lavishly ornamented in lemon leaves, and a beautiful Italian fountain adorned with a profusion of orchids and chrysanthemums, assorted greenery, and topped with a pyramid of lemons. e guests were o ered Limoncello martinis and spritzers, roasted grape and goat cheese bruschetta, mozzarella, smoked chicken arancini, and vegetable stromboli roulades, all while enjoying cocktails in the garden and admiring the Gold Prize Jaguar generously donated by Cavender Jaguar Land Rover.

THE SETTING: e Dallas home of Howard and Cindy Rachofsky was the recent setting for the 23rd annual Two X Two for AIDS and Art. Guests included over 500 of the world’s major art patrons and philanthropists. e evening featured beautiful art, showstopping musical performances, and fundraising that those fortunate enough to be a part of will not soon forget.

THE STYLE: e high black tie crowd featured a dazzling array of custom gowns and tuxedos, which, when added to the art and music on display for the evening, gave partygoers a dazzling artistic trifecta of beauty. e evening began with cocktails courtesy of Tequila Casa Dragones and Belvedere Vodka. While guests sipped on their favorite spirit of choice, they mingled with other partygoers brimming with anticipation at the excitement of the fun evening ahead.

THE SETTING: A gorgeous evening at Laguna Gloria was the recent setting for one of the Capital City’s most anticipated fall social events. ree hundred philanthropists, art collectors, and sociables descended upon the magical space for the 9th Annual Contemporary Art Dinner...and in the process, were treated to a stunning evening of fun and fundraising.

THE STYLE: Partygoers brought their fashion A game with a dazzling mix of bright colors and metallics, creating a happy, welcoming atmosphere that could be felt the second guests entered the upper grounds of Laguna Gloria. Here, the guests could be sipping their favorite spirits and socializing. At the same time, patrons mingled inside the villa on the grounds to view one of the seven lots available during the auction portion of the evening.

As eight o’clock struck, revelers were treated to a performance from a live band, signaling the start of the next part of the night. Dinner and the main program were held on the lower grounds of Laguna Gloria for the rst time in the event’s history. More than a few jaws dropped with awe as partygoers entered the open-aired tent, which featured an enchanted nature theme. It was the 45th annual Seton Development Board gala, where over 300 philanthropists, sociables, and community leaders turned out for an evening of fun and fundraising.

THE STYLE: e black tie optional crowd sported an elegant mix of tuxedos and suits, ballgowns, and cocktail dresses with many vibrant colors spotted in the crowd. e Create the Future theme perfectly accented the cheerful color palette of whites, oranges, yellows, and pinks that dazzled the patrons on hand. e festivities began with a lively cocktail hour where guests posed for photos against a gorgeous oral step and repeat upon arrival. Conversations were had both inside and out as many partygoers opted to have their libations al fresco while enjoying the crisp autumn air.

e action then moved inside to the Four Seasons ballroom for the main program. As the attendees dined on their multicourse meals, they were treated to a series of touching tributes and words from organizational and community leaders on how much the Seton Development Board has positively impacted Central Texas in the past and how it will continue to do so in the future. Funds raised from this year’s gala will go toward providing support for women’s healthcare needs in Central Texas and beyond. THE SETTING: More than 850 of San Antonio’s community leaders and philanthropists, dressed in their nest western attire, gathered to enthusiastically support the Witte Museum at the 52nd Annual Witte Game Dinner, presented by Embrey. e event’s theme, A Prickly Pear A air, re ected a bountiful return, represented by the sumptuous pear of the cactus, from the prickly period of the pandemic. And it was a bountiful evening indeed, with an abundance of delicious South Texas game cuisine by e RK Group, cocktails, and spirited conversation.

THE STYLE: Attendees entered the Witte Museum's Valero Great Hall, adorned with cacti and bathed in hues of pink and green, where they had photos taken and socialized with friends during a cocktail hour that lled the museum campus. Guests were encouraged to wear their favorite attire to showcase their musical air as a nod to the theme of the evening, Change Sings. e couple started dating in the summer of 2019. Annie and Spencer’s third date was over a long weekend at Annie’s mother’s home in San Miguel de Allende with her family. It was there that they realized they had something special. Spencer and Annie enjoy hunting and shing at their respective ranches. So ttingly, Spencer surprised Annie with a formal proposal, down on one knee, overlooking the beautiful countryside on his ranch. She excitedly said, “yes." e couple then drove back to the ranch house, where their respective families were to surprise and celebrate the wonderful occasion. ey were engaged in 2021, and both knew they wanted to have the wedding where they fell in love. And they made it happen a little over a year later. Next stop, San Miguel de Allende.

e rehearsal dinner was held on ursday night at the Instituto Allende. It was spectacular, with cocktails surrounding a huge fountain covered in blue and white owers. e bride wore a wedding gown by Oscar De La Renta, with the train removed. She wore a Monique Lhuillier dress for the wedding and reception, both from Casa De Novia in Houston. Since the rehearsal dinner was on ursday, several guests hosted a casual esta and guayaberas Welcome Party on Friday night at the Plaza de Toros (the bull ghting arena). ere were 3,000+ candles in the stands and giant pinatas of the bride and groom.

e magni cent wedding and reception, with approximately 330 guests, was held at the Hacienda San Luis Gonzaga. ere were 70,000+ owers in shades of pink at both events. A deliciously prepared muy especial San Miguel dinner was served at the reception. e Penzi team designed and created the wedding cakes, the bride’s vanilla cake with fresh sliced strawberries between the layers, and the groom’s cake, German chocolate with a duck blind, and Spencer’s English Cocker Spaniel Finley seated atop.  e wedding planners, Guadalupe Alvarez, Meengan Cárdenas, and the Penzi Team are all from San Miguel de Allende. ey also worked with Angelica Solache Florist to make the arrangements and arches for all three parties.

e couple both attended Texas Christian University yet did not meet until after college.  ey honeymooned in Anguilla and Saint Barth’s. e bride worked at e PR Boutique in Houston, and the groom works in real estate in San Antonio, where he is also on many boards.  e couple resides in San Antonio.

IIT WAS TEATIME AT THE RITZ CARLTON IN DALLAS. CIARA COOLEY had arranged a reservation for a date with Hunt Biggers. Little did Ciara know that Hunt was one step ahead of her. He had already made a reservation and planned to pop the question during this special date with a surprise celebration afterward. e proposal was the perfect anecdote to the couple’s adventurousness. “What I rst noticed about Hunt was how he relaxed he was and how much he enjoyed life,” enthused Ciara Biggers. Hunt Biggers remembers “How easygoing, and adventurous Ciara was.” e couple was initially drawn together as both love to travel and explore new places.

us began the 14-month engagement of Ciara Nicole Cooley, the daughter of Lisa and Clay Cooley of Dallas, and Huntington “Hunt” Edward Barton Biggers, the son of Kathryn and Ted Biggers of Dallas, who had been dating for just under two years when the couple became o cial. e engagement culminated in a lovely wedding and reception at Arlington Hall at Turtle Creek. e wedding included just over 200 family members and close friends, including a wedding party of six bridesmaids and six groomsmen.

e wedding day itself featured three di erent vignettes that re ected the sense of adventure and interests of the couple as the night progressed. e bride looked stunning in a dress designed by Monique Lhuillier. For the ceremony, Molly Rasmussen of Pop Parties collaborated with Garden Gate Floral Design to create a beautifully serene color palette of soft pinks, whites, and golds with a dash of lavender. Guests were greeted with light bites and champagne as they walked down an aisle of oral archways where violinists lined the path to the ceremony. Once the bride and groom were pronounced husband and wife, a 10-piece gospel choir surprised guests with recessional music that led to the cocktail space for the start of the reception.

e reception, held in a tented space on the Arlington Hall grounds, was where David Kimmel Design transformed the space with a vibrant color pallet of pinks, purples, greens, and whites. It also served as a beautiful backdrop as the couple danced their rst song to Clint Black’s When I Said I Do. e seated dinner featured personal seafood towers served in individual ice sculptures, a duet entrée dinner, and individual mini cakes for dessert. e main wedding cake was placed in a breathtaking vignette of oor-to-ceiling owers, complete with ower chandeliers draped from the ceiling, while the groom’s cake was of the couple’s beloved dog, Remi. Just before the transition to the after party, the bride’s mother, Lisa Cooley, surprised the newlyweds with late-night reworks, a Pitbull impersonator, and reball shots to the song, Fireball. is served as a perfect transition to the after party, which was transformed from the earlier cocktail party space into a gorgeous red, hot pink, and black environment where the crowd danced the night away to the tunes of LeForce Entertainment.

e bride received her bachelor’s and MBA from Southern Methodist University and works with her family business, Clay Cooley Auto Group. e groom graduated from Texas A&M, received his law degree from Southern Methodist University, and works with his family’s business, e Biggers Law Firm. e couple honeymooned in Costa Rica and reside in Dallas.

OF JIM AND CHERIE Flores of Houston, Texas, and Mason Alexander Barker, son of Keith and Stacy Barker of Houma, Louisiana, recently celebrated their nuptials in Houston. e couple rst met at an LSU hangout. Mason was a college senior, and Meredith was a sparkling new freshman. A friend introduced them, and while they both irted, Mason played it cool, imagining he’d have another chance to ask her out. Little did they know, it would be ve years before the opportunity nally occurred again, and by then, he did not waste time. ey dated for two-years, followed by a one-year engagement. Mason proposed at sunset on the beach of the Lyford Cay Club in the Bahamas. e bride’s family has a vacation home in the Lyford community, so after the proposal, they all celebrated the joyous couple together.

e couple wanted a personal ceremony lled with their closest friends and family, so a private ceremony was held in the garden of the bride’s family home in River Oaks. ey had 250 guests at the ceremony and 450 at the reception. Naeem Khan and his son, Zaheen designed Meredith’s dress. She made eight trips to New York to assist with its design. e hand-beaded grown, with a treeof-life symbol embroidered into the dress, took over 200 hours to create. e bride also wore a Naeem Khan white beaded jumpsuit for the after party.

e bride walked down the aisle to the Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun, played by a string quartet with French horns from Élan Artists. e bride shared, “We were so joy- lled as the pastor spoke that we both went in for the kiss too early. e wedding guests laughed in delight, as did we.” e bride also mused, “When we nally kissed, the altar trellis dripping with roses allowed a ash of the sun to shine through, displaying the most heavenly sunset, creating my fairytale moment.” e groom beamed when his niece (the ower girl) ran full sprint down the aisle into his arms. He shared, “Seeing the love of my life walk down the aisle for the rst time in her wedding dress was the most cherished moment. She looked unbelievable and completely took my breath away.”

e reception was at the Corinthian Houston, with lavender, dusty pink, and pale blue colors for the ceremony and reception. e wedding event planner/planning team was Todd Events, and the wedding photographer was John Cain. City Kitchen Catering provided chef-attended food stations that included scrumptious over-the-top selections. Susie’s Cakes made the bride’s wedding cake inspired by chinoiserie wallpaper. e groom’s cake was a traditional croquembouche by Patisserie Paris Je T’aime.

e reception band was Rhythm Collective, and the festivities continued at the after party in the Corinthian’s historic former bank vault. Guests danced the night away there to the sounds of DJ Savy Fontana. e day after the wedding, the couple took a minimoon to St. Barth’s for six days. en, they later took a two-week sojourn to Italy. e couple resides in Houston, where the groom works as a Commercial Insurance broker at Insgroup. e bride is an international residential real estate agent at Martha Turner Sotheby’s.

e Marriage Of Emily Lynne Hann & Milam Ross Miller

another... when they were previously only separated by the Red River (she’s an Oklahoma State cowgirl, and he’s a U.T. Longhorn).

After a two-year courtship marked by “casual” dates across Europe, including Michelin meals in San Sebastián, skiing the Swiss Alps, and getaways within Rome, where Milam worked during the week. It was during the 2020 lockdown that he opted to propose in the couple’s private garden in London. “I had been waiting all year, and little did I know that wouldn’t occur until the Christmas tree was up in our garden,” shares Emmy Miller. “It is my favorite holiday and when I least expected him to do it.”

e wedding was at Cornwell Manor, a Jacobean country estate with a Georgian façade, which served as a stunning setting for the three days of events for the 200 guests who traveled across the pond. e setting meant the world to the bride, who is an admitted royalist, and the couple felt their destination wedding had to be in the picturesque English countryside.

e ursday arrivals were marked by a Pizza & Peroni pool party, and in a nod to the groom’s love for all things La Dolce Vita, guests were welcomed with an Aperol Spritz, and woodred Neapolitan pizza served from a pop-up Piaggio truck. Guests donned their best Amal Coast chic, and the sunny day even had Milam and his house party dancing a choreographed cannonball routine to AC/DC’s understruck. e surprise and delightful moment set the tone for the fun weekend ahead.

On Friday, the ladies traveled to Daylesford Organic Farm for a luncheon hosted by the groom’s mother, Suzanne Miller, and his sister, Mallory Miller. e Glass House was a serene setting for the colorful a air with hues of verdant green and lilac from the fresh-cut peonies at the farm’s garden as the girls toasted the bride-to-be with Pimm’s Cups. e wedding party returned for a rehearsal dinner in the estate’s walled garden where many heartfelt toasts were given by friends from all over the world. Vintage postcards of over 30 cities that the couple has visited acted as place cards at the Continental style seated a air.

On the morning of the wedding day, in true British fashion, gray skies and light showers seemed to tug at the emotions of the bride. However, the Texans brought the sunshine, and within one hour before the couple shared their “I do’s,” the skies parted. e bride wore a gown designed by Monique Lhuillier and her cream colored, o the shoulder dress was accented by a veil with hand-embroidered garden roses and ivy, a nod to the English Rose.

e wedding bouquet and ower arrangements lining the aisle were inspired by the bride’s custom Toni Federici veil. e oral team was able to forage live plants and greenery from the estate’s 2,000-acre grounds to bring to life the bride’s vision of a Secret Garden-inspired theme. e wedding was followed by a cocktail reception where guests snacked on crispy duck tartes, polenta chips with tru e foam, and Cornish crab doughnuts. en, the bride successfully sabered a vintage bottle of Pol Roger Champagne to commence the reception’s festivities. e look on the groom’s face was priceless as his wife mastered the opening on her rst try.

After a seated, three-course dinner under a sail tent anchored by a circular bar with white owers, wild ivy, and candles, the bride and groom had their rst dance…on the ground.

e Sensation Band had the crowd dancing into the wee hours of the night and the newly married couple even went crowd sur ng…above ground, as their guests cheered them on below with donning party favors–masks of the royal family, crowns, and Union Jack hats.

Perfect Kind Of Love

MMARY MORGAN BAKER, THE DAUGHTER OF AMY AND JOHN PORTER, AND PENNY BAKER of Austin, and Turner Patrick Dowell, the son of Shannon and Kelly Dowell of Austin, were recently married. For the couple, the wedding day had a special meaning since it fell on their anniversary. “Prior to getting engaged, we dated for eight years. Our wedding date marked exactly nine years together” recalls Morgan and Patrick Dowell. Morgan is very much a planner, which required Patrick to get creative when deciding how to pop the question in a way that would genuinely surprise her. “I’m in real estate so Patrick coordinated a property showing at a condo downtown,” recalls Morgan. “I thought it was a big, fancy executive coming to look at the penthouse. I walked in, and there he was.”

eir nine years together culminated in a beautiful wedding for 200 guests at Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin. e church ceremony featured an elegant, white palette of orchids and roses. e bride had 17 attendants, and the groom had 18. e wedding ensembles for the bride and groom featured touches of family weddings from prior generations. e bride’s mother’s wedding color was turquoise, and she wore a turquoise broach on her own wedding gown, which Morgan pinned to her bouquet as her “something blue,” while the groom wore his greatgrandfather’s tuxedo studs set. Barbara Shorts of Verve Events planned the stunning wedding ceremony and reception, while David Kurio created the elaborate oral décor. e goal was to capture the bride’s vision for a traditional and romantic wedding, with a nod to the couple’s love for e University of Texas.

e reception for 600 guests was held at Austin Country Club and featured a blush pink color palette, with pops of orange. Instead of a traditional seated dinner, the reception owed throughout the entire club, including a special bride’s room and groom’s room. e bride’s “Mo Bubbles” room, a play on her nickname, had blush pink velvet furniture and white carpet, where guests were served champagne in monogrammed glasses. e groom’s room was game day themed to highlight his experience as a Spur and Bevo handler, and the bride as a Texas cheerleader. e bar served two signature drinks: Bevo’s Bourbon and DKR. ere were also two dance oors, with one designed to be more intimate for toasts and the couple’s rst dance. e wedding cake, designed by e Chocolate Llama, even put a twist on the traditional red velvet cake by being dyed blush pink.

At 10 pm, a surprise after party kicked o in a separate ballroom, featuring a collection of Chinoiserie vases, gold and orchid walls, a wall to wall custom dance oor, over-sized burnt orange oral arrangements, and a ceiling covered in balloons creating a lounge club vibe...and the fun went well into the night. e end of the evening featured the bride’s favorite moment, a private last dance with her new husband. “We danced to Cowboy Take Me Away by e Chicks. “It was so special to have a private moment together, and I loved getting to soak it all in one last time before we exited,” recalls the bride.

e bride is a graduate of e University of Texas at Austin and works at Gottesman Residential Real Estate. e groom also graduated from UT Austin and is a Senior Associate at Evergen Equity. e couple honeymooned in the South of France and reside in Austin.

e Marriage Of Leslie Ticku And Michael Shulman

IIT WAS MEANT TO BE. WHILE WORKING IN NEW YORK CITY, THIS COUPLE met through friends who spent summers in the Hamptons and winter ski trips to Colorado together. For Leslie Ticku, the daughter of Beth and Forrester Smith III, and the late Dr. Raj Ticku, of San Antonio, and Michael Shulman, the son of Kristine and Dr. Jay Shulman of Dallas, romance blossomed quickly. After dating for three years, the couple was engaged for six months while planning their San Antonio wedding.

“He surprised me on my 30th birthday when we were surrounded by friends,” enthused Leslie Shulman about how the groom popped the question. “I had a wine-tasting birthday party, and Michael proposed toward the end of the night when it was time to bring out the cake.” The groom, Michael Shulman, shared, “When I frst met Leslie, it was her sweet smile that drew me in. We quickly found ourselves puzzling and cracking little jokes. My crush only grew from there. Now, her humor, work ethic, and intelligence are her most impressive traits.”

The nuptials, which occurred on the lawn of The Argyle witnessed by over 200 guests, was a memorable and elegant celebration. A color palette of gorgeous shades of blues, greens, pinks, and oranges was implemented for the sunny occasion. The bride wore a gown designed by Lela Rose, and the couple was each supported by their 17 attendants. Reverend Allie Hayes Shulman, the groom’s sister-in-law, was the offciant, which made the day very special, surrounded by their family and friends.

The reception, a seated dinner, followed at The Argyle. The couple’s favorite dinner selection of Pepper Bomb Filet and Mesquite Red Snapper was served while the tequila fowed, and plenty of Espresso Martinis were enjoyed throughout the evening. The event planner was Katherine Lopez of Sweet August Events, while Danny Cuellar of Trinity Flowers created the lively foral décor. The band, Drywater, played to the guests’ enjoyment. The rehearsal dinner, a Welcome Fiesta, was held in the courtyard at Hotel Emma, and the reception’s after party was there, as well.

The bride is a University of Texas at Austin graduate with a degree from the School of Communications and is the director of marketing at a technology company, Out Of Offce. The groom graduated from Southern Methodist University, and is now vice president of Asset Management & Texas Acquisitions at Rockport Equity. They reside in Dallas and honeymooned in Tuscany's Maremma region of Italy. The couple are wanderlust travelers and love an adventurous road trip with their Goldendoodle, Ollie, as well as fnding great new restaurants wherever their travel journeys take them.

A World Of Love

IIT IS A CLASSIC STORY OF MODERN-DAY TEXAS. TWO PEOPLE MOVE FROM PLACES outside of Texas to Austin, one of the most desired cities in the world. e two initially connect via the dating app, Bumble, yet the fellow instinctively knows that the lass is the one for him. Instead of waiting for her to reply, he heads to another well-known app, Instagram, to direct message her, and, as they say in all great love stories, the rest is history. us begins the love story of Alexis Williams, the daughter of Amber Williams and Kurt Williams of Portland, Oregon, and Alex Barry, the son of Mary and Tom Barry of Dublin, Ireland.

Once together, the adventurous couple was immediately drawn to one another. “I knew that we would get along. Even if things don’t go to plan, we are always a good team,” recalls the groom, Alex Barry, upon rst meeting his future bride. Meanwhile, Alexis was drawn to their shared interests and beliefs. “I chose Alex because our values and beliefs align. He is kind, loyal, and genuine. Plus, we have so much fun together,” mused the bride.

e couple, who share a love of sports and the outdoors had dated for three and a half years when the groom popped the question on a hike in Austin. “It was right after the 100-year ice storm in February 2021,” recalls Alexis Barry. “We went on our hike with a beautiful overlook. He got down on one knee and popped the question with the sweetest speech. My dream man in my dream city. I was over the moon happy.”

e bride and groom were engaged for 18 months, and during that time, the couple decided France was the place they wanted to marry. After touring nine di erent wedding venues around the country, they found the perfect spot at Chateau de la Napoule, a 14th-century castle on the Mediterranean Sea in Cannes. e wedding was a two-day a air, which is traditional with Irish weddings. e rst day featured the wedding itself, held al fresco on the grounds of the chateau. e shades of pink color palette created a bright and whimsical balance to the Medieval architecture of the venue. e couple's rst dance was the most memorable part of the day. e bride and groom had hired a dance instructor to teach them a routine, which was performed to an acoustic version of the song, Cinema. After a few choruses, the music transitioned into a faster, electronic version to get the party started.

Keeping with the Irish wedding customs, the second day of the celebration featured a more casual party than the wedding day itself. Friends and family donned their nest summer white ensembles for a Sunset Beach Party at the Riviera Beach Club in Cannes. “ ere is nothing chicer than being in all white at a beach club on the French Riviera,” mused the bride. e fun continued at the beach club until about 1:00 AM, when a large part of the group headed to one of the hottest clubs in Cannes, Baoli, to dance the night away, capping o two days of pure love and joy.

e couple, already in their favorite country in the world, stayed in France for their honeymoon for an additional week by spending time in the Provence countryside. ey live in Austin, where the bride is an interior designer, and the groom works in nance.

The Essence of Elegance.

The Argyle house was originally built in 1854 by Charles Anderson as the headquarters for a horse ranch that extended from San Antonio River to Boerne. Even then, it was an outpost of hospitality, entertaining locals, and US Army officers before the Civil War.

Siblings Robert and Alice O’Grady purchased the house in 1893, and started what is now an over 100-year tradition of fine Southern cuisine and hospitality.

In 1955, Betty Slick Moorman and her brother Tom Slick, who had founded Texas Biomedical Research & Southwest Research Institute, had the inspired and daring idea to acquire The Argyle and convert it into a fine dining club. While continuing the legacy that began in 1893, The Argyle was reborn with the purpose to provide financial support for the research conducted at Texas Biomed.

Rich in tradition, The Argyle reopened in 1956 and has remained a symbol of tradition, Southern hospitality, memorable events and the finest cuisine, while also supporting a better tomorrow for humankind.

e Nuptials Of Milla Brusenhan And Carter DeWalch

IIT WAS THE MOST PERFECT DAY WHEN MILLA BRUSENHAN, OF SAN Antonio, the daughter of Alicia and Harry J. Brusenhan, and Carter DeWalch of Houston, the son of Julia and Mark DeWalch, were married at the Christ Episcopal Church in San Antonio. After a courtship of three years, the groom proposed to his intended bride at Mattie’s Green Pastures in Austin. The duo has celebrated many landmark occasions in their relationship at this venue. “When we frst met, I loved Carter's kind and gentle personality as well as his love for travel and adventure,” shared Milla DeWalch. “I loved Milla's infectious, happy personality and adventurous spirit when I frst got to know her,” said Carter DeWalch. “She is an incredibly loyal, loving, and the most supportive and kind wife.”

e nine-month engagement led to their stunning wedding day at Christ Episcopal Church, where the church sacraments were exchanged, followed by a reception at Club Giraud and Southwest School of Art. e intimate wedding ceremony and reception was elegantly sublime with springtime colors of organic, free-form owers, which were chosen to capture the essence of the newlyweds. e bride wore a gown designed by Oscar de la Renta accented with the Parker Veil, a family heirloom on her mother’s side of the family, that has been passed down for generations. Milla’s grandmother’s earrings crowned the ensemble.

e wedding event planning dream team was the collaborative expertise of Katherine Lopez of Sweet August Events, who realized the bride’s ideas and brought them to life, along with Danny Cuellar of Trinity Flowers and Jessica Huisman of Freesia Designs, who de ned and re ned the exquisite oral design. A delicious dinner was served by Club Giraud and also highlighted Milla’s favorite drink, a spicy Ranch Water and Carter’s Old Fashioned. e band, Love and Happiness, from Austin, surprised the couple with a fun and fantastic bluesinspired “Front Line” performance as the newly married couple arrived at the reception. Milla and Carter then surprised everyone with a disco ball, hidden by a ceiling of owers, that was lowered down above the dance oor, mid-way through the celebration.

e rehearsal dinner at e Argyle, hosted by the groom’s parents, Julia and Mark DeWalch, began the wedding weekend on the highest and happiest note, reconnecting and tying together both families and dear friends. is ever-special and beautiful evening was capped o with a super fun Post Toast given by precious friends from Houston.

e bride is a Texas Christian University graduate and completed her Masters of Occupational erapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. She is working as an occupational therapist at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation. The groom graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and is a development manager at Hillwood Communities. The couple enjoyed a whirlwind honeymoon in Italy, where they visited Lake Como, Florence, Montepulciano, and Rome. They now make Austin their residence, where they love spending time together at home, enjoying the outdoors with their dogs, fy fshing, cooking, and trying new restaurants.

Road to Romance

e Nuptials Of Kate Fuller & Rick Leeper,

WWHEN KATE FULLER AND RICK LEEPER, JR. MET AT A PARTY through mutual college friends, they were immediately drawn to each other. The bride, the daughter of Margery and Charles Fuller of Winnetka, Illinois, and the groom, the son of Sherry and Rick Leeper, Sr., of San Antonio, were recently married in Chicago. “Having all of the people we love the most in one room to celebrate our long relationship and everlasting love actually happened when planning resumed after the engagement and pandemic,” shared the bride, Kate Fuller, about their engagement that occurred after a four-year courtship. “Knowing that it is nearly impossible to surprise Kate, I popped the question at our apartment on a Wednesday night,” recalled Rick Leeper. “She walked into a beautiful assortment of candles and hydrangeas thinking it was in celebration of a new job.”

When planning resumed after the engagement and pandemic, the Langham Hotel was chosen as the venue for the duo’s rehearsal dinner. The wedding ceremony and reception that followed were held at the Chicago History Museum. The bride wore a gown designed by Martina Liana as she walked down the aisle among the 150 invited guests. Her long-sleeved dress was similar to the dress worn by her mother at her own wedding. The bride's mother-in-law chose the earrings to be worn with it. At the reception, which followed a seated dinner, the couple sipped champagne out of a silver chalice engraved with the names of Kate's family members and their spouses'. The newly married duo’s names were added prior to the wedding.

e classic black and white oor tile of the historic venue in uenced the wedding's black and white theme, which was accentuated with rich green velvet details. The wedding planner was Erica Vanco with Estera Events, while the foral décor was created by Life In Bloom. The reception’s guests loved dancing the night away to the band, The Chicago Catz, and also enjoyed Devils River Whiskey, Rick's family's whiskey brand. Special touches included cocktail napkins imprinted with the image of the couple's beloved goldendoodle, Tommy. The late-night snacks were classic Chicago hot dogs and churros representing the groom’s hometown of San Antonio. An after party was then held at The Lodge Tavern, one of the oldest bars in Chicago, where the couple received the rare honor of being allowed to sign a brick on the wall of the Prohibition-era speakeasy.

The bride graduated from Southern Methodist University, where she earned a degree in advertising. She is currently the vice president of marketing for the Dallas Market Center. The groom also graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in economics and recently started his own investment business, Tetragon, LLC. The couple honeymooned in Antigua, and reside in Dallas. The Leepers especially enjoy skiing, traveling to new places, playing cards, hosting friends in their backyard, and exploring with Tommy.

e groom assembled his future wife’s family, as well as his parents, in town by surprise from Mississippi, who would join the festivities once the bride said yes to his proposal. “ ere were margaritas and maracas in hand, cheering and toasting to the surprise that had been pulled o ,” enthused Hannah Gresham. “Within the hour, all of our siblings and a few of my closest San Antonio girlfriends joined in the celebration, and a parade of mariachis topped o the occasion.”

e three-and-a-half-year courtship led to the wedding at Christ Episcopal Church, where the bride grew up attending and was also con rmed. It was the ideal venue for the ceremony for the 550 invited guests, as e Reverend Justin Lindstrom o ciated. e couple each had 15 attendants. e bride wore a silk white trumpet-style gown of organza lace set with intricate owers by Carolina Herrera from Julian Gold Bridal. She paired the gown with an heirloom veil from the groom’s family, framed with Alençon lace. She also wore a custom pearl choker necklace with an opal brooch center made from her great grandmother’s opal ring and a matching earring set, all designed by Fannie omas Jewelry.

Since the April wedding occurred right after Easter and Fiesta, the duo wanted to celebrate their reception at e Argyle with family and friends by fully embracing the pleasant springtime weather and by dancing under the open sky as the entire venue was setup as an indoor parlor brought outdoors. Its array of beautiful porches, storied rooms, charming sections like the Coates Garden, and extensive lawns proved perfect for the occasion. During the cocktail hour, guests mingled among a string quartet and enjoyed passed hors d'oeuvres, a magnum champagne station, and a sushi station, with multiple custom bars that carried specialty cocktails such as an Espresso Martini and Aperol Spritz. Dinner was served in various custom-trimmed candelabra and oweranked tents that featured multiple food options from the bride and groom’s backgrounds from San Antonio and Mississippi, with trays featuring “Taste of Mississippi” and “Taste of Texas.” e guests danced the night away to the sounds of the Drywater Band on a custom dance oor design by Katherine Moore, one of the bridesmaids, of Katherine Jezek Designs and executed by Illusions Tent and Events. e after party music was provided by a DJ from Cutting Edge Entertainment. Carrie Catalani Events & Designs planned the wedding details, while Danny Cuellar of Trinity Flowers designed the spectacular oral décor. e rehearsal dinner the evening before was held at the Briscoe Western Art Museum.

e bride is a graduate of Texas Christian University and owns Hannah Vista Photography. e groom graduated from the University of Mississippi and from Southern Methodist University graduate school. He is the vice president at the private equity real estate fund, Velocis. e couple honeymooned in Hermitage Bay, Antigua. ey now reside in Dallas and love exploring new places in their travels, skiing in Colorado, tennis, and neighborhood strolls with their dog, Hazel.
