Overview
Acer liquid E2 is an android smartphone from Acer. The device features a large display, a fast Quad core processor and it's running on Jelly Bean. A device running on Jelly Bean and featuring a Quad core processor sure sounds expensive, doesn't it ? Well it's not, surprisingly the Liquid E2 is a budget phone. The device has some advantages and some disadvantages. The device has an average design, it's made out of plastic and it's not going to win any beauty contests against the other high end smartphones. The device looks thick due to the bezel around the screen. The device features an 8MP back camera and a 2MP front facing camera. The Quad core processor offers decent performance and the software on the phone offers some fun packed features to which we will look into in this review.
Hardware
The Acer Liquid E2 comes up with a 4.5 inch qHD IPS display with 16 million colors. The screen is crisp and clear. The colors are well represented as well but the device could use a little bit more brightness under the sunlight. The screen is responsive, the users will gain a smooth experience while navigating the homescreens. On the top of the screen there is an earpiece along with the 2MP front facing camera. Below the screen there are the capacitive buttons. The top of the device is the home to the power button and the 3.5mm headjack. The Micro-USB port lies below the device. On the right hand side hand side there lies the volume rocker while on the left hand side there's nothing. On the back there is the 8MP camera along with the LED flash and 2 loudspeaker grilles. The device is powered by a 1.2GHz Quad core MediaTek processor. The Liquid E2 offers 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The MicroSD car expansion slot is also available and you can extend your memory upto 32GB. The back cover is removable and so is the battery, this is up to an advantage as you can keep a spare battery if needed. The device weighs only 140g and it's 9.9mm thick. The 8MP camera is capable of shooting videos at 1080p and the camera app is quite fast.
Software
Acer Liquid E2 runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean which means that Google Now and the widgets on the lock screen and other latest features are available which work quite well on the Liquid E2. The UI is pretty fast and simple. There are five homescreens available for the apps and widgets, users can adjust them in any way they want to. There are many different widgets available on the launcher. Most of the core apps have been tweaked by Acer such as the lockscreen, the messaging app and the launcher widgets. Shortcuts are available on the messaging app and there is also a popup message window which pops up when you recieve a text message. The Swype keyboard is available on the device. The Swype feature allows you to drag your finger from one alphabet to the other to form words. The internet browsing experience with the default web browser is satisfactory. The camera app available works quite well and there are many features available in it. There are many different shooting modes available on the camera app such as normal, panorama, auto-scene detection and best shot.
Conclusion
The Acer Liquid E2 is a budget phone which offers a smooth jelly Bean experience with it's Quad core processor. The design is average and it's definitely not capable of beating it's opponents in terms of beauty but the device tackles all your needs with it's bold screen and fast processor. The device could use a little bit more brightness and some more storage. Overall the Liquid E2 is a pleasing smartphone with a large display. Gaming on the 4.5 inch display is a great experience and so is watching movies or watching any video clips online. If you are not after a beautifully designed or a fashionable phone and if you are after a phone with power then the Liquid E2 is the device for you. You wont face any issues with it's performance.
