Over 600 people attended Georgina Pride Day at the ROC on June 10 to show their support to the LGBTQ2S+ community.
During the day Georgina Pride held the 4th annual Pride Ride, which left from the ROC headed towards Keswick, looping along to Lake Drive, up to Sutton and back to the ROC.
The day also included a vendor show with over 40 vendors, the York Regional Police barbecue fundraiser, performances by local talent; including singer and songwriters Tim Danbrook and Francis Chard, and Indigenous drummer, Jacob Charles, with the day closing with the Devereaux Dolls drag show.
“The team worked so hard on the event,” Leah Sheridan, co-founder of Georgina Pride said. “We are all so thrilled with the turn out.”
Sheridan said though the day was a success, they did learn a lot as a team.
“The Pride Ride was significantly smaller this year as the ride was in the middle of the vendor show and a lot of our people could not participate,” she said.
“Next year we will have them at separate times to ensure both have a great turnout.”
She said they took notes and listened to the community in order for the day to go smoother next year.
“Over all we are extremely proud of our team and our community for such a wonderful event,” she said.
She said the support they receive is what helps them run these events.
“Thank you, Georgina,” Sheridan said. “Look for more next year, bigger and better than ever. We are stronger together.”
