Love that Hsinying Excell, Daisy and well done on defeating the slugs on that one. Good job on the Cym rescue, too.

That's a really beautiful flower on the Campo Grande too, Ursula. Nice restrained floof, lovely color.

We have the best weather of the year going on now, for both orchids and humans. Highs of 80, lows in the 60's and sunny all day. I'm seeing a lot more buds on my orchids now that it's settled down to this nice fall pattern.

One spike of nice blooms open on the "I'm not Lulu". Lots more coming along. They are nicely fragrant too.

Elaine, what's the story with your 'I'm not LuLu' ? Did it come from the same place that 'Not Yellow Bird' come from?
It's very pretty and whats not to love about multiple fragrant spikes?

Onc. Tsulku Margaruite #1 This is from Ken and there has to be 50+ buds on this plant. These are the first blooms

Onc. Golden Shower This guy has been with me for years. Bloomed well at our last house but has not bloomed in the 8+ years we have been here. Moved it all over the place, lost the tag. This year it finally found its spot

Anacheilium garcianum - bloomed earlier this year(2nd pic) The first pic is the new blooms. Now according to what I have read, "long, single flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb and holding the flower at mid-leaf. " I don't see a new pb and there are two flowers not at mid-leaf. Weird but I'll take it.

Wow, Ted...lots of great stuff blooming at your place!
Gerberara Snow Ballet is such a pretty one , no matter how many spikes.
Of course, my favorite...Little Fortune 'Fiery with it's rum punch colors... and
that beautiful species OZ...what interesting foliage and flowers ( which for some reason
remind me of blueberry flowers).

Such a glorious show of flowers, Ted. I'm so sad that I couldn't keep my Gerberara alive, it's a lovely flower and I really like the way it changes color as the blooms mature.

Lindsey the story on "I'm not Lulu" is it was a small start 5 years ago when what I call the "orchid orphanage" along the street from me was selling off everything. I bought at least 3 plants that had labels saying B. Little Lulu. They all bloomed with flowers the same as these it has now, and I think I may have mounted two of them to this current raft. When I finally got around to googling Little Lulu, it looks nothing like what I have so . . "I'm not Lulu" it became. I did get a bunch of other plants from that place that had good labels on them, though.

The "maybe Yellow Bird" came from a Master Gardener plant sale, crammed into a tiny metal basket with a tag that said "white flowers". The reason for the "maybe" is that this one blooms sometimes with spots in the lip like Yellow Bird, and sometimes without them. Shrug! All on the same cork mount, all at the same time, this summer.

Think about the spots ladies and gentlemen, genetically where do they come from? Primarily from Brassavola nodosa.
If you look at nodosa flowers, sometimes the spots are prolific and easily seen and sometimes they are hidden way up inside the throat. At times so faint as to be hard to see. I wonder why that is? I imagine it might be a function of light, or it could even be temperature related, I just don't know positively.
I remember being told by Ben Berliner, the Doctor Berliner of Lycaste fame, " if you look hard enough, you'll find the spots". We were talking about a species plant at the time, sure enough, we found those spots hidden way up inside the base of the lip which is often tubular and rolled up tight!! On occasion the flowers seemed spotless.
This phenomena could be at work with Yellow Bird!! Hurray!

My Cattletonia Starrlyn is in flower again. It is Ctna. Why Not X Ctna. Capri. This is simply a good grower and reliable bloomer.
If memory serves it is flowering a bit more cherry-red this time.

I think I have had it six or seven years now, on cork and actually it is in three clumps, upper left, upper right and center front. The two upper plants are in spike.
Flower photo shows a dark cherry red flower perhaps two and a half inches across, round with several traits of the Why Not parent. Vegetatively it looks like a Why Not, compact bulbs and leaves with the overall plant being 6-7" tall. Reddish tinge of the bulbs and leaves is evidence as to just how much light the plant gets. I water it every three days during the summer, weekly during the cooler weather! I tip my hat to you.

Gosh, I'm going to have to get out my magnifying glass and look closely at my B. nodosa. Never seen a vestige of a spot on that one. I thought the spots on Yellow Bird came from the Richard Mueller side. Then again, I had a plant of Richard Mueller that never had a spot either. It was a prolific bloomer, and in both hot and cold weather was plain yellow.

Yes, I do love that Why Not X. That's one I'm looking to buy again, since my other one succumbed to black spot last summer.
