The company who first registered the cross of Cattleya(Guarianthae) aurantiaca X Brassavola (Rhyncholaelia) glauca was Fennell's Orchid Jungle. It was registered by them in 1949.

Prahbi, anyone else can make the cross if they want to such as Alexis Pardo, but they are not the originator of the cross. Pardos' cross would be considered a remake of "Daffodil". Lots of crosses have been made again and again over the years. Often times using superior parents. But every remake has to be named Daffodil. There is no other option if you cross aurantiaca X glauca.
Those are the rules of orchid registration as governed by the Royal Horticultural Society RHS in England.

Hi guys, my first ever post anywhere!
New to orchid keeping but quickly getting addicted.
Nothing special but the first non Phal that I have brought through a complete cycle of new pseudobulb and spike. In fact, 2 bulbs and 7 spikes! 3 open, 4 to come.
Oncidium Katrin Zoch I believe, fabulous scent and week 3 of blooms 😊

This is that orchid I grow in wet sphagnum. I have misplaced the name alas. It is very hardy and has long sturdy canes. It drops its leaves in winter.

How long do the flowers last?

I think it may be Sobralia citrea.

Thank you Bill and Ursula. Yes, it does the best of all my orchids (= abuse resistant). It lasts a while Bill. Alas, I am off to see my 97yo mum in Melbourne or I would have monitored it to see the duration this time. But I will be back in 6 days.

Lots of blooms this year. This is the whole plant. As you can see it is quite big.

And the Bc Binosa 'Tetraploid' keeps on blooming. This one shed a lot of old growth last Summer and surely needs a good clean/up/repotting in the Spring. But it does add new growth during the indoor season and blooms from those within a few weeks.

Fantastic, Ursula. I really like the Binosa. What a contrast in colors and patterns.

Glenn, needless to say, I could be very wrong (that's common Whistling ), but you may have the Blc. Ports of Paradise 'Gleneryies Green Giant' FCC/AOS. This is a photo of my Green Giant. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either one. By the way, I am not even sure that I still have that Gleneryies variety. I might have sold all I had before the move.

All such beauties here, and I especially love the white/orange (maybe ) Sobralia from down Under, Glen.

My Rhyn. digbyana has finally opened, just a month or so late from it's usual schedule. There are two more sheaths coming along but they're quite a ways away from opening, I think. If it stays warmer they may speed up. I am suffering a nasty cold, and can't smell the wonderful scent so I sure hope it holds on a few days until my sense of smell returns.

Thanks, all. Yes my sense of smell is returning slowly. thank goodness.

Glenn, that is just a slab of cork that the digbyana is mounted to. It seems to have attached really well and is very happy. I've had the best success with most of my orchids putting them on cork mounts, then watering them fairly generously. Here in Florida where it rains in a deluge in the summertime, and sometimes every day, it's necessary to have something that dries out really fast so the plants can thrive, it seems. With the plants on cork mounts I can water or it can rain as much as it likes and they dry out nicely.

I don't think I'd grow them this way if they were growing indoors or in a dryer climate, though. Here's a better look. The slab does curve up on this side.

So "Natural" looking . Envious of all the Florida growers who succeed in growing these tough Species outdoors year round.
