The new Canon Powershot A650 IS with 12 million pixels is one of the cameras that are perfectly suited for dental use. While the predecessor models A630 and A640 were already very successful, Canon has added a lot more with the new model.

The resolution of 12 million pixels is almost too much of a good thing, but can easily be reduced for daily documentation. A new feature is the optical image stabilizer, which helps to avoid camera shake, especially when the camera is not steady. Another new feature is the 6x zoom lens, which is not an explicit improvement for dental photography. Particularly useful for working on patients is the swiveling 2.5 inch display, where the viewing angle has been further improved.

This allows you to hold the Canon Powershot A650 camera comfortably and ergonomically correct, while at the same time having direct visual contact with the patient and thus being able to determine the optimal image section. Another decisive advantage is the possibility of manual white balance. This allows the camera to measure the current lighting situation, thus a natural color reproduction can be achieved.

The ability to define a fixed zoom position, which is automatically approached when the camera is switched on, saves time and simplifies the workflow. The auxiliary grid that can be shown in the display as an alignment aid for anterior tooth exposures is also very practical. Likewise, the focus point of the camera can be fixed, making it easy to focus on a specific tooth.

The big advantage of compact cameras is the live image on the display. You can hold the camera in an ergonomic position and use the focus marker to conveniently aim at the point you want to have in focus. Pressing the shutter button lightly focuses the image.

If the camera beeps or the focus mark appears green, you can be sure that the image will be sharp at the desired position. Outstanding macro properties with low distortion
