And Apple has never supported the RAW format for each and every camera. The RAW support page for Aperture (Aperture 3 - Technical Specifications ) says "Wide Support for Raw Support for Leading Cameras". For example, over the years I have owned five different Lumix cameras, but only two of them, the top models, had RAW support by Apple at all.
But usually the Canon and Nikon cameras would get RAW support by Apple, as Keith said, because these brands are frequently used by professional photographers. But it is no way guaranteed, that every camera model will be supported. If I can afford to wait, before I buy a new camera, I wait, until the RAW support is out for the model I want, or I pick a camera that is supported.
The RAW support page for Mojave (Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 12 and macOS Mojave - Apple Support) rephrased the introductory sentence to "iOS and macOS include system-level support for RAW images taken by many cameras." But it still does not promise RAW support for all cameras.
