Olympus .ORF RAW files not supported by Photo

Hi,

I have imported in Apple Photos the photos that I have taken with my new Olympus EM1 Mark III and the ones shot in RAW (.orf) appear as grey placeholders in the library, while jpegs work perfectly. How can I use Apple Photo with .orf files?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

You can try using the free Adobe Digital Negative Converter which converts many of the RAW formats to a digital negative format that Photos can use.

Note: you can quickly check which RAW formats your system supports by holding down the Option key and using the  ➙ System Information menu item. In the sidebar select RAW Support and look for your camera. When an update is released you can do that to check to see if your camera is now supported.

Your Mac is not on the list of compatible models for Big Sur: macOS Big Sur is compatible with these computers - Apple Support You would need at least a late 2013 model.

Either use the Adobe DNG Converter, recommend by OT, or use the software that came with your camera to develop the RAW files. Or set the camera to shoot the the photos in another lossless format, for example TIFF.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

If the problem persists after the above let us know if you've ever installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac.
