Mini DV camcorder not showing on iMovie inputs but is showing in System Information?

Hi,

I am trying to import my old mini dv tapes from a JVC GR-D63EK camcorder to my 2015 MacBook Pro. I am using a firewire 400 to 800 cable/ firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter.

I have tried final cut pro x, iMovie and quicktime player but it is not showing up on inputs.

I have checked the system information on my Mac and it is showing under firewire connection.

don't understand why it isn't showing in my inputs in these softwares if the Mac has recognised it?

please help

This info is for FCP X but it should apply to iMovie.

If these suggestions don't work do a Google search mentioning FCP X and iMovie.

One possibility could be corrupt preference files in iMovie or FCP X.

Hold down the Command and Option keys as you launch the apps.

A window will open asking whether you want to delete the preferences.

Click "Delete Preferences" and the app will then open normally.

However, it will have been put back to its "as new" default status and any project you may have had previously will not be loaded, so you will have to navigate to it.

Whenever, iMovie or FCP X start behaving unexpectedly, it's always worth deleting the preferences as a first step.
