Solomid: Spots to Hold Mid on de_dust2

A look into holding CT Mid on de_dust2 and ways to outsmart your opponent.

Why hold Mid?

The area of Mid holds the area between A and B and provides vital information to your fellow teammates. This player is commonly left alone unless in dire need of support and is expected to uphold control of this section of the map. On de_dust2, the Terrorists controlling Mid allows for your players to be flanked from CT to A, or commonly mid to B. As a Counter-Terrorist holding this position, there are countless ways to switch up where you play.

General Tips

Because you are playing the spot where people usually rotate from, buy a defuse kit and utility in the pistol round! Your team will likely need it if they get bomb plant, and you're playing Middle for info and the frag or two if it happens. Holding Middle isn't where you go "Rambo" on your enemies. Change up your position each round based on what you think is best. Or on the rare occassion, you will need to rotate to either bombsite to support teammates when necessary.

Another thing to remember if you want to play mind games with the enemy team, is to make up your mind if you want to cross through the doors or not. Remember, if someone is watching the double doors they are seeing how many are going towards B. Or if you want to play the risky game, just keep jumping between the doors to mess with the enemy.

Spot 1 (top left), spot 2 (top right), spot 2 boost (bottom left) and spot 3 (bottom right).

Spot 1: Default

This spot is the usual corner where everyone holds that spots people going up Cat/Short or rushing through the Mid doors. Playing this area is good if you are looking to spot with a Scout or if you know the enemy team is on an eco. It is also good for an early pistol round to see if a Mid to B is taking place or a Cat rush. Holding Mid would not be a good idea with an AWP, since it only takes a good popflash for you to get shot by a simple TEC9 rush.

Spot 2: Pocket

Holding within this little pocket is only advisable if your Cat player is playing defensively near the stairs. This corner permits you to get in front of the enemies' faces, which is suitable when one is equipped with a shotgun or a pistol. Or, one could even play the tight angle with an M4A4. If you're on an eco, this would be a good place to get the frag or two and deter enemies if they decide not to go for the revenge kill.

Quick tip: Got teammates that know how to play boost spots? Good! Use this strategy to your advantage if someone smokes Mid Doors.

Spot 3: Behind the Door

Again, it is almost the same as the area mentioned earlier. You play close and ready to go, although shotgun users should be advised to jiggle peek the corner to maximize their ability to flee after taking a shot at the enemy.

Spot 4: Oddboxes

Want to surprise your enemies by letting them go towards B and be shot through the top of the smoke that is behind them? It's as simple as jumping on the top of the crates. Or, if you want to play this corner and pop out to go berserk on unsuspecting Terrorists, just sprawl up behind the box. As a courtesy to your teammates, don't play this spot without giving the heads up to your peers.

Spot 5: Boostmeister Boxes

This is similar to the earlier boxes, but this requires a teammate to assist you. There's a way to do some maneuvering and do it yourself, but it is quicker to just get help. These boxes are to the other side, and basically give you a headshot angle where you can peer over CT smokes and take out enemies.

Conclusion

Playing Mid on de_dust2 requires you to be vocal and dedicated to holding your position. And with this map, team play is key to success. Does the enemy team tend to execute Mid to B strats? Then play the boxes with your M4. Do they run up Cat/Short to hit the A bombsite? Play the default angle or do the boost right by the door to counter their push.
