Unexpected Aggression: Pushing Middle on de_dust2 as a CT

This is how you can stun terrorists as a CT at de_dust2 , especially on eco and force-buy rounds.

Every map of Counter-Strike has its own philosophy people like it for. Dust2 is considered as the most popular map of Counter-Strike series and one of the community favourites. It is a combination of long distances and short spaces that builds a truly equal battlefield for both terrorists and CTs.

Despite its beauty, de_dust2 is one of the maps which does not give you many options to surprise your enemy. It’s really hard to approach the A site with pistols, because short is watched by an AWP from mid and that supplies all the info way too early so CT can set up the block, and long is just too long. Even if you manage to hit a couple of headshots near the pit, it’s really unlikely to get the bomb planted as long as an AWP from goose just picks your crew one by one and you don’t have a big chance of killing it at such a long distance with such inefficient weaponry. Same rule applies to both tunnel and mid during b pushes.

Speaking about CT side, there is a good way to roll the dice on the eco round. And this way is called the mid push. If a smoke grenade lands next to a mid box, it makes terrorists worry about lower tunnel. It is kind of possible for CT to get a kill there as pistol will deal more than 100 damage if you’ll manage to hit your opponent’s head. Moreover, you can hide behind the boxes and try to gather mid or tunnel info for your team or wait for a good chance to get more than a single kill. But is that a “surprise” for terrorists?

That’s why you want to try to push middle. It does not mean you will surely get more value than you could get from a lower tunnel push, but it’s always worth a shot. How can such an aggressive and cocky way to play your eco work? Probably because terrorists focus too much on sniping or acquiring their space at long or tunnel during the first moments of the round. You also get your close-ranged battle if you play it right. I’ve been using this method for a while and about sixty percent of time, I've met lonely snipers at palm that were astonished by witnessing me killing them from a meter away. I also included in this sixty the occasions when I was lucky to meet a terrorist with a grenade or the bomb in his hands. Thirty percent of time I met about two or three terrorists on mid, and about half of these occasions I was kind of late to the party as one of the terrorists was already behind me at short. It does not mean you are screwed in this case. Sometimes, the terrorist on short does not even see that coming and there are no one else on mid to help them. The final ten percent of time, I was brutally killed from a suicide arch.

The green arrow won't betray you!

How to make it right?

First of all, you'll need a non-default pistol and a smoke grenade. Then you need to smoke mid. The best placement for the grenade will be a place right between the middle of lower tunnel entrance and mid box, so a terrorist AWPer cannot spot you. This is how you may want to do it.

If you don’t feel confident enough you can ask your teammate not to go to B too fast and pass the doors while you’re in the smoke. That will distract an AWPer and increase your chance to be unseen. After you pass the smoke keep close to the left wall. This is very important - otherwise you’ll most likely get killed by an AWPer.

This is where the AWPer has to look to have a chance to spot you.

After you get closer to palm, get sure there is no one behind you at short. By the way, you can ask your teammate to help you from short. This will obviously require a boost though. Eventually you will encounter your enemy at a close range and if you’re a master of pistols, you probably got your kill.

Is there a getaway plan?

Even if you meet the lonely sniper at palm and get your kill, you’ll probably get traded by terrorists that are setting up for an A push. If you’ll manage to get away from there, you’re going to meet someone at lower tunnel, because that smoke on mid triggered the terrorists to bring more attention to tunnel and mid. But don’t give up too early, sometimes it works.

In conclusion I want to say that I don't like to play passive and whenever I have a chance of doing something crazy, of taking a risk just to steal the jackpot - I always try to play it. I used to shock my enemies since good old Gold Nova 3 back in early 2014, but, surprisingly for me, it still works and at Legendary Eagle Master in late 2016. So give it a shot in a tough situation and keep trying if it won't work at the first time. The results will please you.
