הִיפֵהַסְטְרוּם (Hippeastrum) הוא סוג של צמח נוי, גיאופיט רב שנתי . על הסוג נימנים 70-75 מינים וקרוב ל-600+ בני כלאיים הגדלים מפקעות, כולם שייכים למשפחת ה"אמרילידקאה" (Amaryllidaceae) שמקום גידולם הטבעי הוא באזורי אקלים טרופי ואקלים סוב-טרופי של אמריקה מארגנטינה בדרום עד למקסיקו ובאיי אמריקה המרכזית . מינים אחדים מאופיינים בשל צורתם הגנדרנית . הצמחים פופולריים ובעלי משתלות ומוכרי פרחים נוהגים לכנות אותם בשם אמריליס יפהפה, פרח הגדל בטבע בדרום אפריקה. ואילו הצמח "היפהסטרום" , כאמור, מקורו הוא מדרום אמריקה ומרכזה. פריחתו הפתאומית של הצמח וצבע הארגמן העז של פרחיו יוצר במקום הימצאו אווירת חג ולכן מחירו של הצמח, במקומות מסויימים, עולה פלאים, לפני כל חג, בתנאי שיובטח כי יפרח במועד.
