Dao

Castille Armory Dao

Our swordsmith Robert Devey, put a great deal of time and energy into designing this, our unique sparring Dao. It is heavily based on the common military style of Dao that was popular during the transitional period between the Ming and Qing dynasties(1700-1800). This Dao boasts a 30 inch “Goose quill” style blade (Daoren), so called for its non-linear curved shape, is on the longer side for this era but not unheard of. The blade is made from 5160 spring steel and hand ground for a perfect taper and balance. It also features a semi-tear shaped guard (Hushou) made from 3/16 hardened alloy and a unique bolster (Tunkou) shaped to depict a dragons mouth.

The downturned contoured grip (Bing) is made from solid PLA and coated with texture for a great grip. Finally, the whole thing is tightened together with a simple ball pommel (Bingtou) as was common on Dao from this era.

In every way this lively Dao handles like the historical references it is meant to simulate.

Robert Devey is a Sifu level instructor in the Shaolin arts.

Our Dao is offered with both a normal and Spatulated tip, flex of F3 or F4 and 3 different finishes.
