|I am a UCI climate scientist and professor, a mom, and a fighter for safety and justice.
- Good jobs: Our business community and working families are the backbone of our community. As we continues to recover from COVID-19, I know that we must do more to ensure our businesses and workers have the resources they need to thrive and keep our community strong.
- Strong schools: As a UCI Professor and mom, I know the importance of a quality education for our kids. And, I know that strong educational opportunities attract high-quality, good-paying jobs. On Council, I will work with our schools, our business community, and UCI to develop strong partnerships to ensure Irvine remains a world-class education destination that helps our children get ahead.
- Clean environment: As a climate scientist, I know that we are facing a crisis right now. On City Council, I will work to increase fire preparedness, stand up to corporate polluters, and invest in green transportation that will decrease our carbon footprint.
I am running for Irvine City Council first and foremost because of my experience as a climate scientist. I have been a Professor of Biology at the University of California Irvine for 19 years, where I have led an internationally recognized research program and educated the next generation of scientists. In 2017, I became so concerned about the climate crisis that I decided research and teaching alone weren't enough. I co-founded OC Clean Power, a community organization of over 30 non-profits, businesses, school organizations, and faith groups to lobby for green energy programs. While doing so, I learned how important good local governance is to dealing with the climate crisis and other important issues.
