We may have learned yesterday that Redmond pulled out of the Family Guy deal, but that's not the only thing Microsoft had going for it to hype up the launch of Windows 7. Here are three of our favorites: Linus Torvalds giving a big thumb up in front of a Windows 7 booth, Burger King Japan offering a Windows 7 seven-patty whopper, and 7,000 dominos showing off the Windows 7 logo.
When we first saw the image of Linus Torvalds giving the thumbs up in front a ton of copies of Windows 7 Home Premium, we knew it was going to be a big hit. We decided against posting it right away, even though we saw it the night before everyone started blogging about it. That was a mistake, at least in the sense that we weren't part of an image that quickly went viral. Microsoft apparently set up a big Windows 7 promotion booth across the street from the conference center of the Japan Linux Symposium. During a break, an attendee dragged Torvalds over to the Microsoft booth for kicks, a photo that will go down in history was taken. The Linux guru did not buy a copy.
The Torvalds image isn't the only thing that has helped hype up the Windows 7 launch though. Burger King Japan launched a Windows 7 Whopper, which stacks seven patties in an otherwise normal Whopper, measures 5.1 inches tall, and will set you back about 777 yen ($8.53). As a result, we now have videos like this one, showing various people attempting to eat the ginormous burger:
The last stunt we're going to tell you about is one that we haven't yet seen posted much, but we feel it deserves some recognition nonetheless. Twenty-two passionate employees at Microsoft's Hyderabad center designed and executed the amazing feat of unveiling the Windows 7 logo using 7000 dominos:
