Common Name or Meaning Gerson's Pleurothallis [Costa Rican Orchid Enthusiast and discoverer of species current]

Flower Size .12" [3 mm]

Found in Costa Rica in the Caribbean lowlands at elevations around 600 meters as a warm growing, caespitose epiphyte with a short, ascending, terete ramicaul completetly enveloped by papyraceous, subancipitous, acute sheaths and carrying a single, apical, elliptic to broadly elliptic, minutely and irregularily emarginate apically, mid vein protrudung abaxially into a small apiculae, gradually tapering below into the conduplicate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on a laterally from the apex of the ramicaul, without an annulus, peduncle terete, to .8" [to 2 cm] long, with a distant glandular, terete bract, rachis to .4" [1 cm] long, successively single, to 4 flowered inflorescence with infundibuliform, glandular, broadly ovate, acute to subacuminate, almost as long as the ovary floral bracts.

"Despite its appealing bright orange flowers and easily recognizable broadly elliptic leaves it seems that Pleurothallis gersonii had eluded botanists so far. The species is as far as we know very rare; in fact we are aware only of a handful of plants, all from a single population on a trail along the Dos Novillos river in Limón." Karremans and Bogarin 2015

This species is part of the Pleurothallis glandulosa Group, made up of P vittarifolia, P chontalensis and P alajuelensis
