Common Name Sanchez' Masdevallia [Ecuadorian co-discoverer of species - Current]

Flower Size 3/4" [2 cm]

Found in southeastern Ecuador in rainforest at elevations of 300 to 1800 meters although it is much more common at the higher elevations as a mini-miniature sized, hot to cool growing, epiphyte with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, close, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic, acute leaf that is narrowly cuneate below into the blackish petiole and blooms in the spring on a transverse, slender, 1 1/8" to 1 2/5" [3 to 3.5 cm] long inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a floral bract carrying a solitary flower that is held below the leaves.
