Common Name Luca's Laelia [English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]

Flower Size 1 3/4" [3 to 5 cm]

Found in the mountains of Minas Gerais in Brazil at an elevation of 1400-1700 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing "rupicolous" lithophyte on fully exposed rocky outcroppings with squat, pyriform pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, elliptic leaf that blooms on an erect, 2 1/4" [6 cm] long, few [1 to 3] flowered raceme that just clears leaf height occuring in the late spring and summer in cultivation and fall in Brazil.

It needs to be potted with coarse materials such as expanded shale and sphagnum, given a definite 6 month winter rest with only occasional mistings, bright light and water only while growing. Said to be a synonym of Laelia longipes.
