Found in the Chinese Himalayas, western Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Taiwan on tree trunks in open forests at elevations of 600 to 2500 meters as a medium to large sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with robust, pencil thin stems carrying several, oblanceolate to oblong, blunt to subacute apically leaves that blooms on a subapical, on leafless stems near the apex, stiffly arching, 2 to 6" [5 to 15 cm] long, 3 to 7 flowered inflorescence with prominent floral bracts
