Steam Update - Militia Arrives

Postby Blink on Thu Jan 19, 2006 3:17 am

Earlier then I guessed, but a wealthy CS: Source update has arrived and with it the new cs_militia:

Updates to Counter-Strike: Source and the Source Engine have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

New Map

* Added cs_militia with High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting

Counter-Strike: Source

* Fixed player name crash exploit
* Fixed rare visibility issue near portals such as doorways and windows
* Fixed a bug that occasionally resulted in doors becoming stuck closed
* Fixed animation issue with shotgun reloads interrupting fire animations
* Fixed bug where footsteps sometimes sounded for crouched players on stairs or slopes (they no longer do)
* Fixed buy menu locking up if keypad Enter is bound to "buymenu"
* Detail props sway in the breeze now
* Underwater observers no longer play drowning damage sounds

Hostage changes

* Hostages can open doors and step up onto ledges/stairs now
* Hostages and Bots obey NAV_MESH_NO_HOSTAGES

Source Engine

* Added FCVAR_CHEAT to some cvars in the materials system

Restart Steam to get the update yourself!

I am now torn! CS is loading militia as I write, but I finally finished my Empire at War demo (forever to DL with the cramped servers). Which to play first?

Ok this map officially makes the original 9 CS:S maps look like there from some outdated CS game. I have never seen a map from any game look like this. This map just pushed the source engine even more. This was the first map that I couldn't recognize from the original, but the layout looks so much better in my opinion.

Militia Features:

- there is a mini waterfall
- flowing rivers
- Incredible Nature Sounds
- plants sway in the wind
- lighting is amazing
- alot more models
- a target range
- the fish are back in there second map
- big beautiful tree
- the most detailed map so far
- the poo is back! (below)

I couldn't believe they still kept this in there, yes the poo has had a transformation from 1.6 , and has been welcomed to the source version. Although he dosn't blow up this time =)

yep it does, looks awesome!!

Apparently people have never played this map before on 1.6 or they’re too busy looking around cus I went 44 and 8 on a server and I haven’t played CS much in months. Also lag was never an issue for me and I thought I might get a few bumps and skips, but never got any. Some people look so funny, like when I was dead there was this T trying to shoot the little fish with an AWP or you’ll see a guy shooting some new object around the map that has physics.

Reminds me of CS source launch day when we were up half the night and then spent 3 hours playing barrel football...

Looks are simply astonishing on this map, to me it also feels as if they've addressed the issue of the heavy T bias in 1.6 and made it a bit more even handed... thoughts?

i thought, finally! valve puts a flowing water texture into the game.
ive made my own before, but its a pain getting them to the clients.. when youre bzipping your maps..

its looking totally amazing, but the map isnt very playable with lots of bots.
Besides the fact my aging pc cant handle 18 bots+hdr+rest, the nature is too distracting for me to actually notice any terrorists. also, there isnt lots of cover either, even though theres lots of corners that appear to be good hiding places, valve simply clipped them. hmpf

overall, for looks, easily the best map made for hl2 ive ever seen, even better than the sp maps and the screenies from most mods ive seen. the nature is simply amazing!

Correction: Turle Rock Studios.

It was quite demanding of my computer aswell with bots, and i didn't even have HDR on. Might be better when you're playing online.
